Easter Resurrection: love in action conference.

Mapalo Bread of Life held ‘love in action’ conference during Easter. On Friday 10th April 2009, the conference started with morning devotion at the Easter Conference 2009Church and later went in the community for evangelism. The members were divided into groups to go and witness the message of hope to the local people.

Group one went to the local Market and Bars/Taverns to preach the gospel. Many people don’t have time to attend church service because they are busy selling at the local market in order to survive. Group one witnessed the death and resurrection of Christ to marketers and people in bars.

“We are unreachable and seldom do we hear the gospel,” said one of the drunkards in one bar. The drunkards and Marketers received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and as a result some Drunkards came on Saturday to attend the conference while they were drunk.

Group two went to distribute water purification to 380 families in Mapalo community because of the untreated water in the area. The group targeted the area that is most hit by water born diseases like cholera, dysentery and typhoid. The water purifications were donated to Mapalo Bread of Life by Southbury Baptist Church of USA.

Group two also donated Bibles and leaflets which contained the message of the resurrection of Christ. “We are humbled us a family to be given the Bible and water purifiers. Instead of buying, but we have been given for free, this is a proof that God loves me and the Family. I will now start going to Church” Said Mr. Kapambwe as he received the gifts.

Group three went to share the message of hope and forgiveness to people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. The group visited six families andHBC Beneficiary donated soya beans, mealie meal, and money for charcoal. Among the people who were visited is a 68 year chronically ill Man who also happens to have asthma. The man was planning to sale His house so that he could use the money to buy herbs from a witch doctor. Sister Olipah Banda who is a nurse by professional, encouraged the old man not to sell his house. She offered to help him get ART and asthma treatment at the local clinic. Sister Olipah has continued to visit and encourage the man.

As Mapalo Bread of Life this is practical way of reaching our target of having 200 new members by the end of 2009. With the amazing grace of our Lord Jesus Christ we have hope of achieving this goal.

Testimonies from our community school

Mapalo Support group is a group of people who have similar problems sharing together, i.e people living with HIV and AIDS. Its vision is to see a community free from HIV and AIDS/TB.

This project is being funded by Zambia National AIDS Network (ZNAN) in partnership with Irish Aid. So far the group has a Volunteersmembership of 20 volunteers from Mapalo community. The group has helped more than 20 volunteers with bicycles to help in transportation as they visit 60 patients.

Bread of Life Community School with its partnership with ZNAN Irish aid is helping people affected with HIV and AIDS who are mainly orphans and vulnerable children.  More than 390 orphans and vulnerable children have been helped with school supplies such as shoes, jerseys, bags, books, and pens and so far paid school fees for 43 secondary school pupils.

With the support Bread of Life community school bought sewing machines and carpentry tools to help the children acquire vocational life skills for survival. The school has also been funded to rehabilitate 20 houses of the orphans and vulnerable children care givers. All the 20 houses have been rehabilitated with new roofing sheets and cemented floor. This year the OVCs have no fear their houses would collapse.

Bread of Life community is also helping three vulnerable children whose father Mr. John Kalaba is our home based care client. Mr. John Kalaba has 4 children namely; Dickson, Elizabeth, John Kalaba Jr. and Moses. His two children benefited from the distribution of school supplies we were giving to orphans and vulnerable children.

This family is one of the victims whose houses collapsed during the last rain season in 2008. This was a period when many houses in Mapalo collapsed because of the heavy rains. This is just one of the families in Mapalo who are facing similar challenges out of 32 victims.

From 2008 to date they leave in the tent. Their house collapsed because the roofing was covered with plastics and card boxes. They have also spent this rain season of 2009 in the tent with the family.  Mr. John Kalaba who happens to be the Father who is terminally ill and His wife has now become the bread winner who only works as a maid. Life has not been easy through the challenges this family is going through.

As Bread of Life community School, we have spared 20 iron sheets which we want to help to cover the small house that we want build.

dsc038651The Government has helped this family with a peace of land but they can’t afford to buy the building materials.

We praise God we have covered a house for the victims whose husband died when the house collapsed with new iron sheets. “I thank God for seeing me through,” She said after finishing the work.

We are praying that God will raise people who we care share with to carry this burden together through helping this family to have building materials such as bags of cement, blocks, sand, stones and money to pay the builders.

We thank God that the government is aware as the office of the House Rehabilitationvice president under Disaster Management Team and the Copperbelt District Commissioner has recommended us to help these families. The government has given the victims the piece of land but they can’t manage to build because of lack of finances.

The victims have chosen me speak on their behalf. Kindly pray for me as I become the voice to the voiceless.

Pastor Peter Chikoseleshi.
